Who gets credit?

Many people take credit for the fact that Millie and Brent are now a couple. We are presenting the major players and their stories and allowing you (the audience) to select who gets to take credit for bringing them together.

Background

  • Brent and Millie's sister Sally both worked at LinkExchange.
  • Brent and Millie chatted at a party hosted by Ali, who also worked at LinkExchange.
  • Brent asked Alan for Millie's email address after the party.
  • Brent emailed Millie, and Millie asked her friend Denise what she thought of Brent.
  • After exchanging a few emails, Brent and Millie went on their first date.
  • On their first date, they went to the Giants Game with Millie's friends, Deborah and Paul.
  • After their second date, Alan made a casual comment to Millie describing Brent as a "heartbreaker."
  • One uncomfortable conversation later, Brent and Millie's dating hit a speedbump.
  • Five days later, Brent and Millie bumped into each other at the Oracle Openworld party.
  • At the Oracle Openworld party, they shared some laughs about the uncomfortable conversation and some kisses on the ferris wheel.
  • Back on track, Millie and Brent shared many good times and got engaged 2 1/2 years later in January of 2003.
Michael Bayle - Takes credit for finding Sally on the web and bringing her to LinkExchange.

Deborah and Paul Briones - Friends of Millie who accompanied the couple on their first date. Had they not been the perfect chaperones (and bought Brent a few beers) there might not have been a second date?

Sally Chou - Sister of the Bride. Worked at LinkExchange with Brent and provided initial introduction of our pair. Sally also introduced Millie to her coworkers at LinkExchange, including Ali, Alan, Denise and Mike.

Taya Rose Cromley - Brent's sister, provider of advice, support and early sensitivity training.

Denise Hontiveros - Helped Millie work through the early "heartbreaker" comment, described Brent as a great guy, and encouraged Millie to email him back.

Tony Hsieh and Alfred Lin - Gave Millie a job at Venture Frogs which ultimately prevented her from moving to LA.

Ali Partovi - LinkExchange colleague that held the party where Millie and Brent chatted, prompting Brent to ask Alan for Millie's email address.

Alan Shusterman - Gets points for recruiting Brent to LinkExchange from mBED Software. Also provided Brent with Millie's email address and encouraged him "to go for it" with respect to asking her out. Caused the initial friction when he described Brent as a "heartbreaker."

Judy Sim - Planned wonderful Oracle OpenWorld event which brought Millie and Brent together after the rocky beginning caused by the "heartbreaker" comment.

San Francisco Giants - Millie's early fandom contributed to a wonderful first date at the ballpark.

Parents of the Bride and Groom - Provided upbringing and love that ultimately make the couple a wonderful pair.
